The War
Today I heard a very odd expression. Someone was telling me about moving to DC and she said, "I moved down about a year ago, right before the war." I don't know why that struck me as odd, but to me, "The war" usually means WWI or WWII, once in a while it means Vietnam or occassionally Korea... But it never means Iraq. The recent wars are qualified as the Gulf War or the War in Iraq, or Kosovo, never just "The war." I've been pondering that for the last hour or so, and it boggles me.
